Circular economy and sustainability

On our way to development, we failed to realize we have left sustainability way behind. While the changing climate pattern continuously reminds us that sustainability is the need of the hour. The environment has already gone through unmeasurable distress. We can't do anything to reverse it but we can at least put effort to refrain from future damage. In a world derived from profit, we need to set a culture of goodness for sustainability.

We should think twice before buying any product. Whom does it benefit? Only the business owners or the environment too. Sometimes eco-unfriendly alternatives are available at slightly lower costs. We might need to pay a bit extra for a sustainable product but in long run, every penny spent on nature is worth it. Because in the end, it's we who have to face environmental catastrophe in absence of the right steps.

To protect the environment, we should awarely compare products sustainably index before purchasing. Nature needs materials that are easy on the planet; easily degradable.

This one step is so effective that if inculcated in daily life can bring huge change.

Also, we should abstain from throwing waste out of garbage cans and cluttering the planet with litter. Seeing the huge gap in the amount of waste generated for recycling and the number of recycling firms available, it's tough to target complete de-littering of the planet. But, we can make our house waste reach the recycling firms via junk dealers. And hopefully, there will be more recycling centers in the future to meet the demand.

We know the planet needs a break to heal hence, there is a need for a thriving circular economy for the repair of the planet.

Circular Economy

The idea of circular economy runs on the zero waste concept. Products are repaired reused and recycled for a prolonged life cycle. It keeps the supply chain smoothly running.

The circular economy is all about redesigning waste into a useful product and keeping material flowing in the ecosystem of consumers.

After knowing all these facts we have understood that a circular economy is vital for sustainable planet growth. Now, the most important fact is circular economy only thrives when the action comes from a place of awareness than a place of ignorance. Hence, Every industry needs to focus on components of the circular economy for the greater good.

Components Of Circular Economy

1. Smart use of natural resources: The reason why there is a burden on natural resources is that we don't use resources effectively. Renewable resources should be used more than non-renewable ones. The rate of regeneration should be considered. It's no surprise that non-renewable resources (such as crude oil/ petroleum) are exploited at such a high rate that their rate of formation never succeeds the rate of utilization.

For instance, crude oil takes thousands of years to form; whereas, after formation, its extraction is done at a very high rate.

2. Stretch the lifetime: The products should be designed for longer life, provided with proper maintenance and repair services. When a product is used an adequate number of times, it becomes neutral and leaves behind minimal scars on the environment. Hence, all resources should be used optimally and should be refurbished for a new life.

3. Redesigning business model: Industries need to adapt with time. Reformulating products and services for a better future is no more an option but a compulsion. Recycling products along with some packaging modification can yield marvelous results.

4. Integration to add value: Most people consider this aspect irrelevant to the circular economy. But the truth is sustainability can only prevail if different sectors integrate for a common goal. Any business first needs to design a sustainable product then it needs to integrate technology say IoT to monitor products and supply chains in order to prevent wastage. The packaging sector also needs to intervene by making eco-friendly bags for products.

5. Design for the future: Any product can't claim to be perfectly sustainable. But some points need to be considered while making products.

  • Longer life

  • Easy recyclability

  • Not harsh on non-renewable resources

6. Incorporate digital technology: Technology is essential to accelerate the sustainable economy drive. One can track and optimize resources, and also monitor the supply chain.

7. Expansion and advancement of knowledge: The relation between science and sustainability can't be denied. The discovery of sustainable materials and services requires proper research and findings. Further, sustainable action stems from awareness and awareness requires the dissemination of information. Hence ASEcopack is here to serve the purpose.

Conclusion

Circular Economy is central to sustainability issues. Every business needs to incorporate components of a circular economy in product manufacturing and packaging. We have yet not unleashed our full potential to achieve a circular economy. Hence we are running short on sustainability. But sooner or later, everyone will realize what's the requirement for a healthier planet and the world will completely switch to a circular economy.
